Introduction
A pregnancy is considered high-risk when potential complications could threaten the health or life of the mother, the baby, or both. These complexities can be pre-existing prior to conception—such as chronic hypertension, thyroid disorders, kidney disorders, or autoimmune conditions—or they may develop unexpectedly during gestation, such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes (GDM), placenta previa, or intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR).
At Florentine IVF and Women Wellness Centre in Lucknow, we believe that receiving a high-risk diagnosis does not mean you cannot have a smooth pregnancy and a joyful delivery. Under the dedicated direction of Dr. Noopur Bajpai (MS in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Fellow in Minimal Access Surgery), our center pairs evidence-based maternal-fetal monitoring protocols with deep empathy, keeping mother and baby safe from conception to post-partum recovery.
The Care Protocol
Managing a high-risk pregnancy requires proactive vigilance, timely interventions, and personalized milestones rather than standard routine checkups:
1. Comprehensive Baseline Risk Stratification: During your initial consultation, Dr. Noopur conducts a detailed medical history review, maternal hemodynamic evaluation, glycemic charting, thyroid screening, and an early viability ultrasound to establish accurate dating and rule out ectopic implantation.
2. Tailored Screening Scans: We conduct early first-trimester NT/NB anomaly scans, non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) if indicated, and a detailed Level-II Targeted Imaging for Fetal Anomaly (TIFFA) scan at 18–20 weeks. Cervical length surveillance is performed to detect cervical incompetence early and place preventive cervical stitches (cerclage) where necessary.
3. Advanced Third-Trimester Vigilance: From week 28 onwards, visits are scheduled bi-weekly or weekly. We perform serial biophysical profiles, amniotic fluid index (AFI) tracking, fetal growth charting, and middle cerebral/umbilical artery color Doppler scans to monitor placental blood flow and fetal oxygenation.
4. Planned, Safe Delivery Execution: When term approaches, delivery timing and mode (normal vaginal birth or planned C-section) are selected based on strict maternal-fetal safety criteria. Continuous cardiotocography (CTG) monitoring and immediate neonatologist presence ensure a protected birthing experience.
Is My Pregnancy High-Risk?

Gestational diabetes or pre-existing Type 1/Type 2 diabetes
-
Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) or preeclampsia
-
Multiple gestation (carrying twins, triplets, or higher-order multiples)
-
History of recurrent miscarriages or previous stillbirth
